Visions of Abby Road

Take a look around the neighborhood and you will find your trips on foot may have just gotten a little safer. In particular are 4 locations:
Linden and North
North and Center
Fairview and Center
Fairview and New

These locations are now graced with upgraded thermoplastic "Abby Road" style crosswalks which provide higher visibility and are even reflective at night. This is a project of the North by Northwest Neighborhood Initiative and came out of a collaboration between the city Traffic department and the NbNW's parking and circulation committee.

Great houses North of Broad

In the North of Broad neighborhood we often hear about the Victorian Mansions just South of Broad. Just take look at the following view of Bethlehem from 1873 and you will see that much of our neighborhood was also built prior to 1873 and much of the other buildings came in between 1873 and 1915. In fact, the North of Broad District is filled with Victorian architecture, some well kept and some in need of attention. For this reason I am going to start two recurring posts on this blog. The first, labeled "Great Houses North of Broad" is a showcase of great historic properties in our district. You can see some slides I have already collected here. The second post will be "Hidden Potential North of Broad." This recurring post will showcase those houses that you walk by and think--"that COULD be a great house." If you have a house you would like to see spotlighted in either of these categories please submit the address and a photo to walkabout21@gmail.com. Thanks and I will see you around the neigbhorhood.
